It's the time of year when Pooh and his pals like to show how much they care. But Rabbit insists they cancel Valnetine's Day because of the flood of cards that littered the Hundred Acre Wood last year! Reluctantly, everyone agrees, until someone anonymously sends Pooh a pot of honey.
A Valentine for You: The dreaded day has finally come: Christopher Robin has been bitten by a smitten (that's a member of the love-bug family)! What can a silly ol' bear do to cure his best friend? Winnie the Pooh and friends Piglet, Rabbit, Eeyore, Owl, and Tigger set off deep into the darkest parts of the Hundred Acre Wood in search of a smitten to bite Christopher Robin and cancel out the effects of the initial bite. Pooh and his friends get separated in the woods and are reunited by the glow of a love bug. When it comes time to release the captured bug and cure Christopher Robin, Pooh has second thoughts--Christopher Robin seems so happy that it seems wrong for Pooh to want things any other way. Pooh returns home on this saddest, happiest Valentine's Day to find a valentine from Christopher Robin awaiting him. Endearing Eeyore takes center stage in this compilation of four heartwarming tales focusing on friendship and Valentine's Day. This Book of Pooh entry, with its lifelike puppetry and computer-animated set, is Disney's commendable salute to A.A. Milne's Hundred Acre Wood stories. Rather than the frenzied cartoons of the Playtime series, these stories are gently paced and self-deprecating, with subtle humor reminiscent of the British author's original characters. "Mr. Narrator," for example, describes a day in the life of Pooh and pals when nothing happens at all. Faced with the problematic notion of an "unstory," they ask the narrator to invent one, with comical results. In the program's title segment, everyone receives a Valentine except Eeyore, so Piglet attempts to remedy the oversight with surprises for all. "Beastly Burden" has Eeyore pondering his existence. If Tiggers bounce and Pooh-Bears eat honey, what do Eeyores do best? The answer comes from an unlikely source and is as delightful as the six original songs interspersing the 45- minute program.
